On December 4 and 5, 2026, the SCHEU ACADEMY by SCHEU-DENTAL invites participants to the FUNCTIONAL Summit in the Rheingau region. The continuing education event is aimed at anyone interested in functionally oriented aligner therapy, including general dentists as well as orthodontists. Among the speakers is Dr. Julia Steinmaier, specialist in orthodontics and practice owner of JUST KFO in Cologne.
Aligners and the temporomandibular joint considered together
At the center of the two days is functionally oriented aligner therapy. This means treatment that takes into account not only the position of the teeth but also the temporomandibular joints and the masticatory muscles. The program includes lectures on the stability of the temporomandibular joint, a live demonstration of functional diagnostics, and exchange among colleagues.
Two areas of focus in our practice
Aligners and the temporomandibular joint are among the areas of focus at Dr. Steinmaier. We fabricate 99.9% of all appliances, splints, and aligners for our patients in our in-house master dental laboratory. For temporomandibular disorder (TMD, often called TMJ) , we have been examining the temporomandibular joints with the digital DMD system since 2022.
On both topics, Dr. Steinmaier, formerly Dr. Funke, has published numerous professional articles and book contributions , for example in 2022 in the Journal of Aligner Orthodontics on CA Pro, an aligner foil by SCHEU-DENTAL. In other contributions, she describes how treatment can continue with aligners after splint therapy for temporomandibular disorder. Since 2026, she has also been authorized by the North Rhine Dental Association to provide advanced training in orthodontics for dentists.
