# Long-term Effects of Interproximal Enamel Reduction

Results: No new carious lesions were found. Three older adults showed minor labial gingival recession. There was no evidence of pathological processes in the tooth root area. The distance between tooth roots was statistically significantly greater in patients after interproximal enamel reduction than in untreated individuals; 59 of 61 patients reported no increased temperature sensitivity. On examination, the irregularity index value was only 0.67 (± 0.64).

Conclusion: Interproximal enamel reduction performed according to this procedure did not result in iatrogenic damage. Dental caries, gingival problems, or alveolar bone loss did not occur more frequently, and the interradicular distances between the lower anterior teeth had not decreased. At follow-up examination, a low irregularity index value was found.
