# Children’s Orthodontics Congress 2024 in Bonn

On May 4th, orthodontists from all over Germany gathered in Bonn for the congress: "Mouth Closed!? Breathing in Children," hosted by the BDK (Professional Association of German Orthodontists).

A central theme was the correction of mouth breathing in children to promote secure nasal breathing, jaw development, and clear articulation. The discussions highlighted the often underestimated importance of a closed mouth and the role of orthodontists in explaining this clearly and comprehensibly to parents.

Particularly insightful were the presentations on sleep-related breathing disorders in children, which—unlike in adults—are characterized not by daytime fatigue but often by hyperactivity.

The congress emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and provided a platform for the exchange of cross-disciplinary knowledge essential for treating this complex issue.
